Time really flies

3 weeks left till the mid terms and then winter break, and i'm halfway through! Kinda of scary though..with all the amount of studying i am anticipating. You're taking it one week at a time but then, there's still the final issue of the exam that is standing there and laughing evilly while you approach. How to review each week when you can't even finish some of the readings? Oh well, i will find that out in 3 weeks. And there's no Study week at all. Last week of classes, new material, and yeah it's included in the exams.

Just talked to Mom on the phone, it was nice to hear her voice. and i heard Bek barking in the background..oh how i miss my two dogs sooooo much! I realised this, by the time i graduate Bao Bei will be near her expiry date. Omg.. Precious Bao Bei! I don't see myself going back to SG for quite a while after next year. Cause 08 summer going to Europe and 09 Summer going to stay in toronto and do summer school and find some work. then after that, final year and will be graduating ! Just saw the Class of '06 Fall Convocation a few weeks back..looks so impressive, then you realised you've only just started.

Anyway, Mom told me that Dad is asking whether i'm taking enough credits. Yeah Dad, I AM!! In fact, i am overloaded. As you can tell from some of my previous entries. I know i changed my major but i was only doing 3 credits(fall) and 3 credits(winter) for that, and i dropped that and took up a 9 credit course which has a SIGNIFICANTLY heavier work load than any other courses, that's actually the heaviest course load the uni offers. So, i am buried in readings every single week already, on top of that, you have weekly assignments, reading summaries to write, surprise quizzes to prep. for, writing notes from readings, essays, research for your essays, and presentations, so yeah, i think i am taking quite ENOUGH credits thank you. My writing and summarizing skills is one thing i will be proud of once the school year is over.

But you must be wondering, don't you go crazy? Well, the only thing i got going on for me is that, the content is actually what i want to study all my life..I enjoy my classes and some of the professors just make it so much more interesting. So, thats the good thing, you get to choose what you wanna study.

Okay, i'm going to go prep for a presentation tmr! woo wee presentation...bleargh.

So looking forward to the Winter Break.

P.S Halloween is tmr! Or rather, by the time i post this it will be Today! I'm starting to realise how big a deal it is over here.

Just a little update for u folks at home

Toronto is now 13 hours behind Singapore. Not twelve but THIRTEEN. Basically, the time's been switched back an hour, DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME, for Winter! Its kind of cool actually.. 6pm it gets dark. As we proceed further into the end of the year, the day will get shorter and shorter and shorter. Today was kind of weird, cause we just switched this morning..its like you have the feeling of an extra hour, extra time.

I've learnt a couple of things now..when you live in a country which has climate diversity.

1) you can't pour oil down the sink, cause during the winter, it freezes and clogs your pipes. Back in SG its like, yeah whatever i'm just dumping the stuff down the sink hole.

2)Closing window blinds helps conserve heat in the house.

3) There is such a thing as preparing your house for Winter, unclogging the roof drainage systems, checking the furnace and heating, double glazing your windows.

4) Realizing the importance of scarves and gloves. And a nice steaming cup of coffee.

5) Letting your steaming cup of coffee sit out in the open for 5 minutes and it becomes cold.

6) Butter does not become soft if you leave it out on the counter overnight.

7) There is a washing detergent that ''removes'' static from your clothing. and i desperately need to get that, i was getting static-ed all week, its not even funny anymore.

8) oh yeah, static. In your clothing, in your hair, on your arms, on your backpack.

Well thats all i've got now..i'll try to think of some more and post..

I finally saw the picture of kor and dad..they look so...different. Its been 2 months and a week(i think) my memory's a little messed up. Its just weird not seeing them for so long and suddenly looking at a photo.

Mom's French Teacher at Alliance Francaise is that Jerome guy!! From TP! Jie Xin, remember him? Wednesday Nights never looked and sounded so good. haha. well, he was funny too.

I can't get started.

Okay i've finally got down to this. So my reasons for changing the blogskin is because, i'm not trying to remember my past(still sloshing freshly up there) and i don't have amnesia. I just thought the picture looked cool. But as you can see, i just can't let the black theme go. So this picture, i know its way too big but pfft, is from Casablanca. if you haven't watched that movie i'll definitely recommend it. Its one of the classics. Plus, i Love old movies. and this is like the perfect one. So there.

Its easier on the eyes too.

I can't get the bloody links to work!! Damn it. 2nd and last time i'm changing this damn thing.

Just read that my brother graduated from BMT..okay uh i'm not very sure whether its a big thing or not but i think it is..congrats Kor!

Desperately communicating with Junie on MSN to try and fix the prob.

1.30am..sore shoulders, dry throat and heavy eyelids.

i'm starting to grasp the gravity of the situation here..It is going to be coooooooolllddd(say it Staff Sgt. Farnsworth style) next week. Actually i think its going to be cold for a very very very long time starting from next week. Temperature is not rising above 10 degrees for the next ten days, lowest: -1, highest 9. But its only late October.

And i don't have any sufficient clothing for this kind of weather! Well i have my winter jacket but i can't wear it now, and look like a total idiot. the rest of my stuff is apparently too thin. I really really need to go shopping now, not for the sake of buying but HAVING to absolutely buy or freeze my ass off while walking back to res at night. You know what this means? More Coffee!! muahahahaha..caffeine has seriously no effect on me. I can still sleep like a baby every night.

More coffee a day keeps the cold weather away(from potentially freezing a person with insufficient fall clothing)

But, there's always a but, i'm bogged down by work. I can go shopping in about 2 weeks. When my essay outline and presentation is done. Well those are the major parts of assignments now. that means going around in not warm enough clothing for two weeks.

So its HALFWAY THROUGH THE FALL SEMESTER NOW!! Weeeee..6 weeks of school is gone. Another 6 weeks of this hedonistic intellectual hell(for me) and winter break! Skiing and driving..two things i'll learn.

Aww..are all of you back home dreading school reopening? lol..well i don't blame ya..6 more weeks guys.. SIX MORE WEEKS! and you will be enjoying your mid term break and i will be enjoying my winter break. The Difference: The Weather. and the length i presume? 3 weeks for me!!

Today i discovered that its actually very interesting to sit in a coffee place, with a steaming cuppa joe and watch people. I made many silent mental remarks about people today while sitting in a corner and pretending to read my notes. I intended to read my notes, but got distracted. You wouldn't believe that watching people is way more interesting than what Islamic scholars had to offer to the scientific world right?

I finally figured out who Nicholas looks like.. ANDY RODDICK!! Finally i could give him an answer after many weeks of going to class, saying you remind me of someone and staring at him with an inquisitive look on my face. Of course he said, do i? before saying, who's Andy Roddick? Nicholas is not a tennis fan. Then Travis with his laptop, googled a picture onto the screen, and Nick's going: I don't look like him! Oh wait..my eyes..my EYES..my eyes..hmm. Well the way he said it was like some prissy girl admiring herself so Travis, Steph and I laughed and the TA was like, you guys are cracking up, what's the matter? yeah well..it gets boring after that.

Did you know that the York Library allows each student to take out a maximum of 50 books? Huh... so thats how much they expect you to utilize. Well i have 12 books sitting on my desk now. and its only for one of my courses. Guess you know what i'm heading to do now..

I JUST BURNED MY TONGUE WITH TEA!

To answer Kelly's Tag, yes Kingfisher does Rock! Its the bird with the best of the best of the best name!!!! If i remember correctly, my patrol (2004) won an award for patrol with the best teamwork..while me, the patrol leader left them hanging halfway to fend for themselves while i went off holidaying in Hong Kong. Okay, i'm not as bad as i type myself out to be. Personally, i regretted leaving but circumstances could not allow me to change course. hmm, look at it as, throwing them into the deep end after a few days of guiding. Not that bad right and i think that's the best way to learn! ..err..okay i'll stop.

Anyway, today was a unusually usual day. With the exception of Don Megan's Prize Palooza, i bid AND won a bathroom caddy and a skipping rope.Yup, skipping rope, great for winter exercise!

I wanted to buy some magazines but due to some strange force, i just stood there and flipped thru and in the process saved some money. And i still have not finished my reading for 1310..argh..irritating lahhhh.

I really have to shut away this laptop.

reading reading reading. I haven't talked to the people i haven't talked to in a long time. everyone's sooooo..gone.

Anne is studying her ass off now i think.. study hard! few more weeks..like those o level chums.

I'm tired and sleepy. But duty calls......bleargh.

damn it was cold today.

1 degree in the morning and now its 4.

Wind chill here is no joke..i couldn't even feel my own fingers.

I need to go shopping. Some of my underwear seems to have gone missing..laundry thieves in my dorm..? maybe.

if its like that in october, what's it gonna be like in January and February, the worst winter months? Surprising thing today, it was snowing heavily in the Niagara Regiona and Western New York in Buffalo. Snow in October? Doesn't happen! What kind of weird sign is this..Snowed so heavily that they closed schools and all.. Does this mean harsh winter? not a good sign for my heat adjusted body. Well its an excuse to drink more coffee.

gee like what am i doing to my system? Coffee is addictive as i've discovered. Starting to feel like Lorelai in Gilmore Girls.

Anyway, i'd best get back to my reading.

which are:

Gottfried Von Strassburg's Tristan
Ede and Cormack's A history of Science in Society
Lorimer and Gasher's Mass Communication in Canada
Lawrence Grossberg's Media Making
S. Morris Engel's With Good Reasoning

i'm just typing this up here cause i'm doing my reading in front of the computer..so this list wil serve as a IN YOUR FACE MO' FO' reminder.

See ya

What's rollin'?

Last weekend was really fun, but back to reality now. The TA for my communications class has thrown our class a lifeline by pushing back the essay outline deadline for a week. Okay, that gives me ample time to meet with my writing tutor and try to figure out how to write a university essay. I'm starting to feel the strain of taking TWO 9 credit courses..the workload is no joke. I mean, these 2 weeks i've had it easy with no readings for Scientific Change but monday holidays are running low, so that means i'd have no freaking life during the weekends!! Unless i read every night. No end to it OMG. Okay panic attack over. In Poly, at least the window is only 7 weeks so its not that bad if you just study all the way, but this, is like, the pace of lessons in poly(1 week 1 topic), the term length of JC/secondary school(12 weeks), and thrice the amount of work. Just some analogy on Uni.

Enough of feeling impending doom. Mom will say, just take it as it comes. True.. note to self: stop thinking ahead.

So last weekend, or last friday night, we celebrated Mooncake Festival by eating mooncakes of course and drinking tea. After that, Jiun Ruey n Jiun Yiing and i sat at the table and talked. It was nice, like bonding. and then, they came up to my room and talked some more. of course it was getting late and i had to wake up early the next day for the apple picking trip to Whitby with MSSA. So it was the 2nd day in a row where i slept late and woke up early.

Anyhooo, saturday morning, went to school early and only Nicki and Mingshen was there so we waited for others to come, after that Kyle came in his car and so i went in his really cool car with Johann, Shuxia and Sarah. The apple picking was really fun, met more people, Ruth, who is a 3rd year NUS exchange student and Vannie, who has lived all over the world, it was interesting to meet all of 'em. We got into a sort of apple fight in the middle of the orchard, with MS initiating the fight, lol, it was really funny as we threw apples at people a couple of rows away, but the bush was really thick so they couldn't really tell who or where the apples were coming from, so its like, throw the apples, wait a few seconds then, 'OI! ' and some other local exclamations..some amused canadians were standing by watching. I bought our Thanksgiving dessert, apple pie naturally and bought a bottle of apple cider to sample. We had fish and chips for lunch, its one of those small town sort of places so the people were really nice, they gave us 10 percent discount for each and everyone. Whitby is a really great place!

and then sunday was back to reading and studying bleargh...Sunday wasn't good.

So that was it.. my last chance to have a life during the weekends. Even our profs tell us, get a life only 4 years from now. Hmm, i will have a life in the summer and winter break.

I'm spending the winter break studying again....for DRIVING!! *does not mind at all*

hope you guys are doing all right and enjoying the rest of your holidays.. take care! *smiley face*

October is here! 1st entry in my monthly archive..

Updates come on monday or not at all..heh.

I'm getting very busy with school work right now as the semester is picking up speed and i'm hurling towards the winter break wall at top speed. at least i hope it'll come quickly. Aunty Diane is leaving for HK tmr morning, she couldn't come over today so i said goodbye on the phone. No more Friday at the movies and shopping! Sad. I definitely want to stay at her house next year. I really don't like dorm, but you probably know that already. I think a year is good experience enough. Staying in a house is equally awesome. Taking care of groceries, cooking, cleaning, washing..now that'll take care and hone my domestic abilities. And what Dad has taught me will finally come into good use.

Last Saturday was the wedding at the 4 seasons, the Dancing at the end was the most fun part! Only our table ended up dancing. Raymond, Michelle, Ingrid, Kevin and moi! I felt abit strange cause everyone's like in the 28-30 y.o bracket. But the dancing was the best! Ingrid's parents were trained in ballroom dancing so they kicked it off. Fun fun fun.

Okay i'm taking this as a good sign as everywhere i go, i meet pple who are or were communication majors. Ingrid was at Northwestern University and again, got some perspective.

Downtown Toronto is awesome!! I have to go there and walk thru all the amazing shops and buildings. I wanna go see 'Chicago' in Nov/Dec. Might be going to Yankee Stadium next year if the plan with raymond solidifies. WOOO! Yankee Stadium! NYC! I hope its a Red Sox game..

I realised i havent talked to any of u on MSN for a very long time. Well, only Siew Ying cause she's up at obscene times of the day e.g Early Early morning. Its the Holidays girl!! So im sitting at my computer at 8pm or 9pm Toronto time and its 8/9 am SG time and she's the only one on my MSN list who's online. Had a web cam party with Anne, JY, Midori and Bibi last thursday to celebrate Anne's birthday. it was fun and good to see them all!! but they ate cake while i was stuck with bananas! they drank beer while i was stuck with grapefruit juice! Sucks! i can't drink, can't do anything here. I can drive tho'. Why 19, Ontario? 19 is such a awkward number, 18 is better don't you think? And what's the difference, on maturity levels? some 16 year olds are more mature than 19 year olds.

This line was running thru my mind while they were eating cake, from Marie Antoinette: ''if they have no bread, then let them eat cake!'' In my case it was ''if she has no cake, let her eat bananas!''

I haven't been checking and thinking and talking about football stuff for a long time. No one to talk to about...Angeline!!! Saturdays are so busy with sch work that i can't afford to get on MSN.. i know i'll get carried away and there goes my reading time. And i feel myself getting more and more detached from home.

Some random pictures for ur lovely peepers..

Alaskan Black Cod with smoked mushroom sauce served with Chantelles, potato with truffles and some leaves that i cant identify.

What i had at the wedding.

Dessert.

Yum.

Sugar Shock.

Good while it lasted.

Okay maybe this is one of the things i'll miss about Dorm..getting stuff like that!!

Seriously this has to be the best.

Laughs out Loud.
