I finished my term paper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 2000 word essay which has been bugging me for a very long time is finally. out. of. the. way. Well i still have the bibliography to do but hey, that can wait. My target was Thursday, finish it and now its Wednesday morning, 1.33am. Doing great for time. I can finally study in peace and boy do i have alot of studying to do. So today, i brought my draft to the writing centre to have my tutor look at it. She read through it and i felt really uncomfortable. i don't know why but i feel weird when people read something i've authored in my presence. She corrected some of my writing faults and i think i learned alot about my own writing in a very short space of time. A few goods sprinkled here and there. At the end she told me that i handled it well for a first try and that i was a good writer!! I am not bragging here but its just that i had this perennial dread of writing academic papers since i got accepted here. and since academic papers are sooooooooooooo different from high school essays, i was sure it was going to be tough going. I didn't do A levels, which is where i presume one gets grounding for how to write uni level academic research papers, and in Poly, i learnt how to write business reports not 2000 word papers on the academic field of your choice. Plus when our lecturer was telling us about the essay when he first gave the topics out in week 3, he said: "keep in mind, you are contributing to this field of academia and research by writing your essay". Like whoa, we are first year undergrads! You HAVE to write something useful and then at the back of your mind, its like: why the hell would my opinion matter? It was intimidating. Yeah, so it was nice to have someone who has a doctorate in professional/academic writing assure you that you're on the right track. I thank god for the place that is the Centre for academic writing. Oh in case you were wondering what the hell a Centre for academic writing is, it is almost like a faculty, which i think exists in most North American Universities(if not, all. I'm not too sure about the other continents). They basically have people who specialize in teaching students how to write essays in their fields of study. So you get tutors who specialize in writing essays in Science, or Business, or ESL(english as a 2nd language). And it's free! Of course that's what you pay your tuition fees for. So they assign you a tutor and then you and your tutor will work together on your writing assignments until you don't need one anymore.. i guess. This is as personal as student-faculty member relationships will go. Its all so grown up..lol. It is here, where Professor and Student are equals. I guess sometimes i'm still stuck back in SG where the teacher will just yell and everyone has to be quiet. I'm still a little bit in that mindset. haha. I think you've heard enough, i have to go sleep now and wake up early. Did you know that the best time to do laundry is very early in the morning or in the middle of the night? I swear, you leave your laundry in the machine for just a minute after its done, people will take your stuff out and god knows what they'll do with it. One of my shirts got put on top of the dusty shelves and i had to wash my formerly dirty and then clean then dirty shirt again. And i have yet to finish this week's reading for Dante. *sigh of resignation* Night night. I'm doing the early morning laundry dance. soliloquy88 at 2:10 PM | Comment ~~~~~ |
